Our Responders

Paul - Scheme Co-ordinator

 Head Porter
I am lucky to have lived and worked in Oundle all my life .
In 2003 the idea of CFR's in the community was introduced in Northamptonshire and I felt it would be a very rewarding way of volunteering and helping my local community.
Over the years the CFR scheme has developed to allow us to attend more patients who are in need of urgent medical attention.

Margaret - Scheme Secretary

Retired Head Teacher
I was a primary school teacher for almost 30 years before retiring in 2011 and seeking other interests. I trained to become a Community First Responder in January 2012 and have been volunteering since then, taking additional training along the way to increase my knowledge and range of skills.
I enjoy being part of a caring and committed team, and have met some amazing people from all walks of life since becoming a CFR. In my spare time I like to walk in the beautiful countryside around our area or spend time with my family and friends. I will also drive a fair distance to find a nice tea shop!

Callum - Deputy Scheme Co-ordinator

EMT - East of England
I have lived in Oundle for 30 years and became a CFR 5 years ago.
I joined the OCFR to be able to give something back to the community. Being a member of the First Responders helped me to learn the skills required to aid me in my quest to join the Ambulance Service full time, a position I achieved in April 2019.
In between work and responding I can generally be found in the garden or on the golf course.

Charlotte

Yoga Instructor
I joined OCFR in March 2017 having realised that I had some hours to offer around teaching yoga and family commitments. I am married with two grown up children and have lived in the Oundle area for the last 20 yrs. When not on the yoga mat or on call I’ll most probably be found out and about with our two dogs.

Louise

Teacher
I was initially made aware of the Community First Responder Scheme when we lived in rural Somerset and my Dad was having a cardiac issue. The first responders made a big difference both in looking after my Dad but also in supporting us as family whilst we were waiting for the ambulance. On moving to Oundle, I decided to take the plunge and join up myself as I thought it was such a good scheme. I have now been responding for over 10 years, fitting it in around teaching and our young family.

Ellen

Housewife
Hi I’m Ellen Wilson,
I became a Community First Responder April 2019. I live in Ashton with my husband, we have 4 children aged 13 to 21.
I had a background in first aid from starting off as a Life guard to being first aid officer all of my working career after that, I thought I would be suited to being a Community First Responder and what a great way to help in my spare time. I really enjoy working with the great team of first Responders, the support is second to none. Meeting and helping people in the community is very rewarding and I thoroughly enjoy it.

Wendi

CFR
Midwife since 1997. I have lived locally for 50+ years. I have 2 daughters, 1 of whom is also a CFR, we decided to do the training together in 2021. I thoroughly enjoy being part of the CFR family, whilst also being able to do something positive for the local community.

Ellen

Property Developer
I moved to the Oundle area in 1998. Since then, I have had several different roles including Wife, Mother, Carer, Charity Fundraiser, Charity Trustee, Image Consultant and now Property Developer. I live with my husband in one of the small villages just  outside of Oundle.
I joined OCFR in 2023 as I am keen to volunteer in our community. It's great to be part of this amazing team.
In my other spare time I enjoy painting pictures, designing spaces, doing a bit of upholstery and wild swimming

Our Trustees

Chris - Chairman Oundle CFR

I first got involved with Oundle’s CFR group in early 2012 after answering an advert in the local paper. Having always lived in more urban environments, to find a group that was so community based was inspiring.
In my youth I volunteered for several years with Meals on Wheels in Croydon/South London, but fell out of the habit once I moved to Windsor then the North-West. Moving to Oundle in 2007, I felt a real sense of Community and, once established, wanted to give something back.
After three years as a Responder, I was asked to become a Trustee and then four years ago was elected as Chairperson, a role I am very happy to fulfil in support of the great work the Responders do.
As Trustees our primary role is financial governance, but the team go beyond this remit by supporting fund raising activities, providing links to other local charities as well as an interlock to the Charity Commissions governance.
Having recently retired from the the IT industry, and when not Trusteeing, I can be found exam invigilating at a school in Corby, cooking vegetarian food at home, keeping fit at the sports centre, attending rock gigs in London, travelling in my motorhome, on a plane to experience different parts of the world, scouring record shops for collectible vinyl to add to my collection, or just chilling on the sofa with a good book!
In addition to CFR I also volunteer for Macmillan, FoodCycle and The National Trust.

Oliver

Retired
I was a GP in Oundle from 1988 to 2015. I have been a trustee for so long I can't remember. I am very proud to be a trustee for such a wonderful group of volunteer responders and I feel Oundle does not always realise how lucky they are to have them (until they need them).

Heather

Retired
I became interested in the First Responders following the creation of the group by my daughter Kathryn, Paul Brackley and a couple of others, after they had been recruited by Two Shires Ambulance Service. After Kathryn started full-time work, Paul then took the lead and has been doing so ever since!
When a vacancy for a Trustee occurred, I was invited to take the position and happily accepted. I have thoroughly enjoyed supporting these fabulous people, who do a wonderful job in our community, and am very happy to provide ongoing support and hope to continue to do so for a long time.

George

Retired
I have lived in Oundle for over 35 years having spent my working life as a dentist in Corby. I became a trustee of the OCFR in 2020. It is an honour to support the great, enthusiastic, committed team of first responders we have in Oundle. Since retiring from general practice I spend my time gardening and playing golf. I am a member and past president of the Probus Club of Oundle as well as member of a U3A military history group.
